Acrylic Paint on Panel (36"x60")
LABYRINTH #1 was created in an attempt to scale my drawing style into a larger, sustainable format. After thorough experimentation, I determined that pen and ink on paper, while inspiring to the viewer, did not translate well to larger compositions. I turned to acrylic paint on panel, which offered similar dimensions to my drawings but was much more viable due to its durable nature and more efficient coverage.
I began working on this piece flat on a table and eventually started moving it around my studio, constantly changing the orientation and adding new layers. This process helped me develop and highlight focal points that I found most interesting. The title "Labyrinth" reflects the intricate, maze-like design of this work. I aimed to balance order and chaos by combining different application techniques layer after layer until bold geometric elements and thicker lines emerged.
Unlike my usual minimalistic approach, LABYRINTH #1 took multiple sessions over months, resulting in a detailed and complex composition. With hints of the original wood panel visible through the layers of black and white paint, viewers can see through some of the earliest layers.
